Welfare chauvinism among co?ethnics: Evidence from a conjoint experiment in South Korea

This paper asks whether welfare chauvinism applies to co-ethnic migrants. Existing research on chauvinism, the view that provision should be restricted native-born citizens and migrants excluded from provision, has largely focused ethnic difference as a main motivation, but little attention is given discriminate among co-ethnics. Using choice-based conjoint experiment various framing interventions, this considers South Koreans against in providing social housing. It also public cost recipient contribution requirements affect discrimination. We find co-ethnics are subject with applicants more developed culturally similar origins preferred, we do not structure motivates discrimination based origins. Accordingly, expands literature migration states better consider non-Western societies high levels of migration.
